I am featuring Dr. Magdaleno B. Albarracin Jr. because his good deed of helping others has always been my inspiration. He financially supported my 5-year Civil Engineering degree and encouraged me to share my blessings once I am ready! Now, I am ready. I will soon write a post about how I received the scholarship grant from Dr. Albarracin Jr.

Hats off to you sir!

As always, there is one person that deserves my warmest gratitude and that is you.

Growing up in a broken family was not easy on my part. Heartaches, lack of love from a father and unbearable pains were experienced. I thought I cannot pursue my studies in college due to the fact that my family cannot afford to send me to school. My mother was the only one earning a living for my brother and I, while we were under the care of my grandmother.

But if there is a will, there is a way. I enrolled in CSCST-AIFC Argao Campus and luckily I was chosen as an Alumni Scholar of your Salas Foundation. My family was very happy for that blessing. My friends and classmates were even jealous because I had you as an ANGEL, always so supportive and kind.

My constant thoughts that time: “graduating in my chosen degree would be less of a prick now that I no longer think of where to get my tuition fees from first year to fourth year. All I have to do is to maintain the required grade. This scholarship is a great help for me and my family.”

March 14, 2004 was one of the most memorable days of my life — my college graduation. It was also a family reunion. My mother and brother came home and together we celebrated my big day. Not long after my graduation, I was hired as a public teacher. I am now almost 5 years in my profession. This would not be possible without the kindness and generosity of you, Mr. Eric Ariel Salas, and your family. I now have a job to look forward to every day. Also, this is the right time for me to start building my own dream.

Sir, you are so much a part of all that I am today. You are God’s good instrument. I thank Him for all the kindness and generosity you have shared with me. May God bless you in everything all through the coming years.

THANK YOU SO MUCH.

Michelle C. Albatana Entoma

The Salas Foundation encourages everyone to sponsor a scholar for four years or for the rest of the scholar’s study program. We pick a student for you or you can pick from our list of student applicants. Your responsibility is to provide your scholar the needed tuition fees. We assure you that all students we provide or list here are from low-income Filipino families, as documented by their eligibility status [see scholarship].

Tuition fees in State schools/universities in the Philippines are not at all pricey. Funding needed for one student to finish a year of study is about $300 (that’s $150 per semester). For the scholar to earn a Bachelor’s degree:

    * 4 year Bachelor’s degree: $300 * 4 = $1200

That amount is already inclusive of the tuition and other school fees!

As a sponsor, we will give you contact information of your scholar and update you annually on his/her academic progress.

Your financial help is valuable for our cause. Imagine this, for as little as $300, you can send a less privileged student to college for one full year.

Contact us here if you are interested. First semester classes in the Philippines start in June, and November is the start of the second semester.

Johann was diagnosed with Profound Hearing Loss on both ears and the little boy needed cochlear implantation. Johann’s Medical Doctor, Charlotte M.
September 11, 2008

Greetings!

We would like to refer Johann Marvel Vince Jamora, 3 years and 9 months old, boy, from Mandaue City to your good office for possible financial assistance for cochlear implantation.

Johann is diagnosed with Profound Hearing Loss on both ears as confirmed by a series of audiological tests done on him. Play Audiometry and ABR Studies results showed profound hearing loss on both ears.

Having a profound hearing loss at a very young age will have adverse effect on the child because speech and language development will be compromised as the child would not have any access to daily sounds and speech. Unless intervention is done (amplification) the chance of developing spoken language will be very minimal.

The cochlear implant will provide Johann access to normal daily sounds and voices that will be his guide and catalyst to develop spoken language…and a good chance for a better future.

For any further inquiries, you may contact me at the following numbers; (63-32)522-0946, (63-32)521-8095 & (63-32)521-8450 loc. 2153.

Sincerely yours,

Charlotte M. Chiong, M.D. [signed]
Deputy Director
Philippine National Ear Institute
PTR# B5412612A
—

Janice’s family doesn’t have the financial capacity to send Johann for the necessary implantation. Coming from an average-income family, her husband runs a small “store” that earns a meager amount for their daily sustenance. Savings from her monthly job salary are not sufficient to even shoulder half the expenses for one ear. Janice and her family are doing their best to collect the needed amount for Johann’s cochlear implantation.

That was when the Salas Foundation came to help. In our utmost desire to help Johann, we asked people with kind hearts to donate a dollar or two for the kid. To our surprise, most donations were no less than $10 and money came from people all over the world.

We have already issued the accumulated donations to Janice’s family. Although, it was not enough to shoulder the cochlear implant that costs thousands of dollars, but it was enough to help the immediate needs of the kid.

Update [July 13, 2010]: Johann now has hearing aids and doing well in school.

First of all I would like to greet you a pleasant good day! I hope you are in good condition and in good health. I am Jeyza Marie Albarracin Campaner, your scholar. I am 19 years old, the eldest daughter of Mr. Victor and Alma Campaner. I am now in my second year of Bachelor of Elementary Education at the Cebu Technological University, Argao Cebu Campus (CTU-Argao).

As your scholar, I’m very thankful and blessed for this opportunity that you’ve given me. Through this, I will able to achieve my dreams in life, which is to finish my studies, to become a professional teacher and most of all to have a better future for my family. I do encounter problems and challenges like having low grades in some subjects. But when I think of my parents and your scholarship, I am always encouraged and inspired to do my best and to make things better. I am so thankful that I have met a person and a family with a golden heart like you. I hope you will continue to help other people to achieve their dreams in life through getting college education. Once again, thank you very much and may our Almighty God bless you and your family always. Take care.

Respectfully yours,
